Right now I am very anxious over a particular crisis and in trying to get hold of myself and get some peace, I read 5 things, and, the 5 things are different each day.
The 5 things are 5 chapters from the Bible in the Book of Psalms. I pick the 5 Psalms depending on the day of the month.
Some people have suggested this kind of reading plan as a sort of one-time project to read through the entire book of Psalms in one month. There are 150 Psalms, so, taking 5 a day will get you through the book in 30 days.
What I do is pick the first Psalm based on the day of the month; on January 2, I would pick Psalm 2. Then, I add 30 a few times to end up reading Psalms 2, 32, 62, 92, and 122.
For some reason, this interval between chapters gives a mix of readings that take my thoughts on different paths yet in the same direction.
For example, today, my meditation was on the verses below. Yet, I remember my focus being on things other than a crisis on some other ‘2nds of the month’.
Psalm 2:12
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.Psalm 32:7
You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance.Psalm 62:8
Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
